William and Mary Hayes were one of the pioneer families of the
Alice Springs District. They arrived in 1884 with horses and bullock teams
loaded with steel telegraph poles to replace the original wooden poles on the
Overland Telegraph line.
Today, six generations later, Bill and Jan Hayes and their family own and
operate Ooraminna Homestead. The 450,000-acre property is situated between the
Macdonnell Ranges and the Simpson Desert and includes the Ooraminna Ranges. It
boasts magnificent red sand hills, weathered rocky outcrops, and a profusion of
plant and wildlife.
This Central Australian
cattle station allows
you to gain insight into
the workings of such a
property, if you are
lucky you may be able to
be involved in a muster,
or watch the chopper
pilots bring the cattle
in. See the different
land formations, learn
about the unique flora
and fauna of the region

surrounding countryside.

:Originally
part of the film set for
the Drovers Boy, the
stone cottage Police
Station and Gaol is set
for the adventurous
outback travelers. This
accommodation is
luxurious however has
the atmosphere of being
part of the outback.

views of the Ooraminna
Ranges but secluded for
privacy. The Police
Station has its own
bathroom and room with
king or single bedding
and an open fireplace
for winter warmth and
air conditioning for

The
authentic Old Gaol is
located at the rear of
the Police Station, and
when combined with the
Police Station is ideal
for a family or group.
It has two single beds

Wooden Slab Hut:
For a taste of the
outback in comfort, the
Slab Hut is for you.
Recreated from a photo
of a pioneer’s home, the
Wooden Slab Hut is
located only a few
metres from the main
homestead. It is
powered, a queen and
single beds, own
bathroom and an open
fireplace for winter
warmth. The verandah and
accompanying views are
the perfect way to while
away an afternoon.
