Dating from the 1930s as lodgings for the Hydro Electricity
executives of the day, Tarraleah is a living history of Tasmania’s
hydro-electricity industry – the property sits at the heart of the hydro scheme
and relics of the past combine with today’s working plant to give guests a sense
of this aspect of Tasmania’s history.
The same crystal waters that power the hydro start high in remote mountains and
draw down toward the sea, cutting great swathes of river through the wilderness
and leaving great lakes in its wake. From this, Tasmania draws inspiration for
its spectacular scenery, extraordinary wildlife, the freshest produce, cool
climate wines and windy country lanes that usher visitors from one unique
experience to another.
